Melissa is the Executive News Producer at KXLY. While her main job is day-to-day management of the newsroom and content, she's a reporter and writer at heart. She spent many years working as a General Assignment Reporter at KXLY and elsewhere and has been awarded for her writing and continuing coverage.
Outside of work, Melissa is a wife, mom and dog owner. She is married to kxly4 Sports Director Derek Deis (their courtship began in a small-market newsroom that was once a funeral parlor!). They have a little boy named Dylan and another son due in June 2011 (Hoopefest week - a true Spokane baby!) Two shelter dogs, Chewy and Roxie, round out the chaos at home. When she's not working or chasing kids and dogs, Melissa is a voracious reader, a reality-TV addict and a sports lover. She's a proud member of the Spokane River Rowing Association.
