Schweitzer Mountain Is Opening Saturday | Sports & Recreation
Groomers have been working this morning to prepare the mountain for its season opener on Saturday. It's the earliest the resort has ever opened for the winter season since 1984. The early season conditions are a product of their snow making system and 23 inches of natural snowfall this season.
The man-made snow was converted from 3.7 million gallons of water collected from a spring runoff and stored in a mountain-top reservoir. When converted to snow, it equated to about 18 inches on Midway and Happy Trails.
Sean Briggs, Marketing Coordinator says they're running the Basin Express and Musical Chairs double for the weekend.
