Sandpoint's Holland Wins Sixth X Games Gold Medal | News

Sandpoint native Nate Holland won his sixth Winter X Games boardercross gold medal Saturday in Aspen, Colo., beating out 2011 champion Nick Baumgartner and Jayson Hale in a thrilling finish.

“It always feels great to be back on top,” Holland said. “It all came down to today, and I knew I had to ride my heart out to back my words up.”

Holland had to settle for the bronze medal last year, which snapped his string of five consecutive Winter X golds in boardercross.

And Holland was determined to get back on top of the podium.  Earlier in the week, he reportedly tweeted: "XGames here I come and I want my gold back.”

Mission accomplished.

Holland's win brings his total Winter X Games medal tally to nine.
