A prescription drug take back program hopes to protect citizens and environment | Health
Beginning Friday, August 19th, Sandpoint residents will be able to drop off expired or unused prescription medications at the Sandpoint Police Department station at 1123 Lake Street. In partnership with Idaho Conservation League and Bonner General Hospital Foundation, the Drug Drop Off Program is being implemented for the health of the community, protection of the environment and the safety of citizens.
Only law enforcement agencies can accept prescription drugs from the public and before they're dropped off, personal information on the bottles should be removed using a permanent marker. The program is anonymous and donors will not be questioned. The officer on duty will oversee disposal into a secure bin.
The Program does not accept liquids, syringes or Epipens, but liquids can be mixed at home with coffee grounds, kitty litter or put in a sealed container before being put into household trash.
The drop off is available weekdays from 9 a.m to 4 p.m.
