Local leaders in North Idaho will hold meetings this week to discuss potential flooding on the Pend Oreille river. The river is expected to reach flood stage later this spring.
Cooler temperatures and above average rain and snow are causing the potential for flooding. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers expects to open the Albeni Falls Dam before Lake Pend Oreille peaks.
The Corps will hold public information meetings in Sandpoint and Cusick next week. The meeting in Sandpoint is at the Bonner County Administrative Building Wednesday, May 18 at 7 p.m. and at Cusick HIgh School on Thursday, May 19 at 7 p.m.
