FIRST THURSDAYS SIZZLE IN DOWNTOWN SANDPOINT
New Monthly Event Launches on June 2
The Downtown Sandpoint Business Association is welcoming summer with the launch of First Thursdays, the hottest new event to hit downtown Sandpoint in years. Featuring music, interactive booths and exciting specials at retailers and restaurants, First Thursdays will give visitors and locals a fun new excuse to head downtown from 4-8 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month.
The monthly party will debut on June 2, 2011 when Main Street will be closed to traffic between Second and Third Avenues and more than 16 local businesses and community organizations will set up shop with interactive fun for all ages. 7B Board Shop will be headlining with live skateboarding; the Girl Scouts will make science fun with a booth where guests can make slime; the Panhandle Animal Shelter will have adoptable dogs on-site; Kind Soul will be offering face painting and henna tattoos; the Spa at Seasons will have chair massages; the Music Conservatory of Sandpoint will be getting in on the action with a musical instrument petting zoo; and The 219 will be opening up their back lot for a beer garden where adults can relax and enjoy the ambiance with a frosty brew.
During the June First Thursday, guests will be invited to stroll through town and enjoy live music on five different stages. Generations will be rocking the crowd in the Main Street area; The Monarch Mountain Band will be performing on First Avenue in front of Arlo’s; The Sandpoint High School Steel Pan Band will be creating a party vibe on First Avenue in front of the Inn at Sand Creek; and Ron Kieper will be playing at Pend d’Oreille Winery. There will also be live music at Trinity at City Beach.
Nearly 30 local retailers will be participating by staying open late, offering special sales and hosting entertainment – for example, First Thursday participants can catch Star the magician performing at Zero Point Crystals, Gems and More or enter into a yodeling contest at Zany Zebra. Sandpoint restaurants are also joining in the fun with First Thursday themed specials – for example, guests can order up a special First Thursday menu item featuring only local ingredients at Trinity at City Beach, enjoy fresh grilled kabobs and drink specials at DiLuna’s or cap off the revelry with Eichardt’s famous Dollar Beer night.
First Thursdays launch June 2 from 4-8 p.m. and are scheduled for July 7, August 4 and September 1; additional information can be found at www.downtownsandpoint.com.
