A Hereos Homecoming at Silverwood

A Hereos Homecoming at Silverwood

To honor the men and women recently home from a year long deployment in Iraq, Silverwood is offering a fun filled day on the house.

This week, dozens of guardsmen with the Idaho National Guard returned home. When Silverwood learned of their homecoming it quickly came up with a plan to celebrate the soldier's safe return home.

On Sunday, September 25th guardsmen and women and their families will get into Silverwood for FREE! Silverwood will also host a picnic at the park for the soldiers and their families at 1 p.m.

If you'd like to sign up for a day of roller coasters and water slides call Brandy at the Idaho National Guard Post Falls Armory, 208-272-7532.

For the past two years the project has been collecting data from broadband service providers to create an interactive map of where high-speed internet exists and where it doesn't.

High-speed internet certainly doesn't exist in Pocatello. The New York Times reported that Pocatello, Idaho is the slowest city in the country.

Fire fighters are making progress battling the Birthday Fire along the Selkirk Mountains northwest of Bonners Ferry. The fire only increased 28-acres due to cooler temperatures and an air inversion which slowed down the spread.

Hot spots are still active, but most of the activity is surface fire. Firefighters are still preparing structure protection to a private cabin a quarter of a mile from the fire's perimeter in case the fire perimeter increases.

Coats 4 Kids will be collecting coats on Sunday, the last day of the Interstate Fair

Coats 4 Kids is an annual fundraiser that has been collecting coats for children for 26 years. They start collecting in mid-September so children can keep warm just in time for the cold and wet fall and the colder and snowy winter.

KXLY has teamed up with the fundraiser to help collect coats at the Spokane Interstate Fair. On Sunday, September 18th, visitors who bring new or gently used coats to donate will let one child 13 and under in free  to the fair from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Coat drop-offs will be at the entry gates.

If you're headed up to the fair for a variety of events on the 18th, including the full-sized car demolition derby, don't forget to bring a new or gently used children's coat that you can donate. That Sunday is the last day of the fair.
